Storyline

When a couple invites a third into their bed, their relationship is put to the test. How much freedom will their love allow, and how much truth can it endure?

About the film/director

Svenja Jung is one of the most versatile actresses of her generation. She first drew attention with Fucking Berlin and The Center of My World, earning nominations for the Förderpreis Neues Deutsches Kino and the New Faces Award, and winning the Bavarian Film Prize for Best Young Actress.
She has since delivered acclaimed performances in Deutschland 89 and Dark, as well as in the dance and family drama The Palace, where she portrays twins, The Empress, Sam – A Saxon, and the Netflix series Crooks. Internationally, she appears in the British mystery Baghead and HBO’s Spy/Master, which competed in the Berlinale for Best Series.
Her recent work includes the television film A Man of His Class (German TV Award 2025 – Best Film), the internationally successful Netflix drama Fall for Me, and the WDR series naked, where she continues to explore complex characters with subtlety and intensity. The short film “Between us” marks her third project as a director, following a series of music videos and a previous short film completed as part of her studies at the University of Potsdam.

Director’s statement

I wanted to create a small, intimate world – a “cocoon” that captures the relationship between two young people. For me, the interaction of bodies within a space is central: what is said, and what is revealed beyond words.
Coming from a dance background, I’m deeply interested in the physical truth of a scene. The story unfolds on the morning after a threesome – a couple relives the night before, moving from playfulness and sensuality to jealousy and power shifts. The “third person” appears only in brief visual flashes, like memories that return through the skin.
The film reflects my generation’s search for freedom and fulfillment through open relationships – and how honesty often slips away in the process. I wanted to show how truths remain unspoken, how closeness turns into distance. In the end, both characters deceive themselves, while the audience gradually enters the inner world of the protagonist and begins to see the story through her eyes.
