Storyline

We are entering the age of artificial intelligence. At this point, its capabilities are still comprehensible. But that will probably change before long. What does it mean to be human? How does AI “think” about what it means to be real?

About the film/director

Michael Scheyer, born in 1980 in southern Germany, will take over as editor-in-chief of the Memminger Zeitung in May 2026. In 2009, he completed his studies in theater, film, and television studies, philosophy, and sociology at the University of Cologne. He made his first short films while still a student and received various awards. From 2011 to 2021, he worked as an editor for the Schwäbische Zeitung and as a video editor for Regio TV Bodensee. For three and a half years, he headed the communications department at Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen. Since 2021, he has been a freelance lecturer at the German School of Journalism in Munich and an independent film producer.

In 2021, he released his first feature-length documentary film, “Kilimanjaro – This Time with Crutches” (distributed by Schmidbauer Film). In October 2025, his short film “Was ist echt?” (What Is Real?) was awarded the jury prize for “Best Regional Short Film” at the Oberschwaben Film Festival. His new documentary, “The Magic of LIVE,” is set to be released in the fall of 2026.
