Storyline

The image that neighbors have of each other is shaped by knowledge and prejudice. This also applies to the relationship between Czechs and Germans. In our documentary, we examined this image together with students from the Karl Rehbein School in Hanau, the American Academy Brno, their teachers Markus Harzer and Pavel Novak, as well as contemporary witnesses and academics from both countries. It has become a documentary film in an open format, which initially seems to offer more opportunities for questions, less an apparent objectivity of preconceived ideas. The film shows no "truths". The inclusion of contemporary witnesses and the students from both countries getting to know each other have clearly led to a deepening of mutual relations and an intensive examination of the subject matter.

About the film/director

Rainer Brumme:
Studied philosophy and theater studies in Erlangen and Frankfurt am Main. Active in the "Filmfaust" and the "Verband deutscher Nachwuchsfilm".
Wolfgang Spielvogel:
Born in 1945 in Barzdorf/Bernartice in the Altvatergebirge. Grew up in the Swabian Alb. Studied theater studies in Vienna. Then worked in the theater as a dramaturge, director and playwright, since 1996 in his own off-theater in Frankfurt/M. "Über unsere Schwellen hinaus" is his second film (in collaboration with Rainer Brumme).
