Storyline

What do young Germans know about the Czechs? What do young Czechs know about Germans? And where do these ideas come from? How do people learn? What development opportunities do students and young people see for both countries in Europe? The film takes a closer look at these questions and documents how they have changed over time.
In the second part, we show how the walls of black and white thinking of disrespect and hatred are broken down in the period before the Prague Spring (thaw). Here the young people work with the novella "Carriage to Vienna" by Jan Procházka. The film thus serves to promote cultural coexistence and mutual understanding.

About the film/director

Rainer Brumme
Studied philosophy and theater studies in Erlangen and Frankfurt am Main. Active in the “Filmfaust” and the “Verband deutscher Nachwuchsfilm”.

Wolfgang Spielvogel
Born in 1945 in Barzdorf/Bernartice in the Jeseníky Mountains. Grew up in the Swabian Alb. Studied theater studies in Vienna. Then worked as a dramaturge, director and playwright, since 1996 in his own off-theatre in Frankfurt/M. “Über unsere Schwellen hinaus” is his second film (in collaboration with Rainer Brumme).
