Storyline
Two petrol stations in the middle of Europe. Two non-places. One border. The customers come and go. The petrol station attendants stay. While Theresa grew up at her father's petrol station in Furth im Wald, Bavaria, and now works there, Ján has only been employed at the petrol station in Železná for a few weeks, a few meters from the German-Czech border and the former Iron Curtain. "The First and Last Petrol Station | První a poslední pumpa" is a bilingual documentary about home and borders, about petrol station tourism, Germans and Czechs and life at the petrol station.
About the film/director
FERDINAND HAUSER was born in Halle (Saale) in 1995. After studying Western Slavonic Studies at the University of Leipzig and Charles University Prague and internships at the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and the Goethe-Institut in Prague, he has been studying Translation in Literature - Media - Art at the University of Vienna and Charles University Prague since 2019. He is the author of a travel guide about the Czech capital and was awarded the Susanna Roth Translation Prize in 2020. CONRAD WINKLER was born in Halle (Saale) in 1997. During his school years, he made contributions for the Open Channels of Saxony-Anhalt. He received numerous regional awards for this. After graduating from high school, he completed an FSJ in culture at the Fontane Festival in Neuruppin. Since 2017, Conrad Winkler has been studying documentary film and television journalism at the University of Television and Film Munich. He works as a video producer and is a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation.
