Storyline

Alex's childhood was marked by his father's violence. Now, in his mid-30s, he is a father himself and increasingly overwhelmed with this role. He doubts his ability to love, is afraid of becoming like his own father. Alex breaks away. Simply away. Where to? Doesn't matter. To Casablanca, maybe. While still in Germany, a stranger suddenly got into his car. She becomes a silent companion. No questions, no expectations. An escape from yourself, the inner demons. A turbulent journey across Europe begins: ecstasy, fleeting acquaintances, foreign places - both experience a seemingly surreal time in a state of intoxication, in the middle of nowhere. But the further away Alex gets, the more he longs for his son. Even the companion cannot bring him any relief. He has to face his demons alone. Their paths finally part as they cross the continents. She reaches the destination, Casablanca. He crashes in a hotel room in Tangiers and loses himself completely in the maelstrom of his own childhood trauma.

About the film/director

A "jewel of underground cinema" and "manifesto of independent film."- With these words, the Italian press celebrated SOMEHOW, the debut film of the film collective AKI T. WEISSHAUS, after it opened the festival at the Torino Underground Cinefest in September 2022 and was awarded in the three main categories of Best Feature Film, Best Director and Best Actor. The film collective AKI T. WEISSHAUS stands for democratic, equal and anti-hierarchical filmmaking. The collective was founded in spring 2018 and consists of the filmmakers: Alicia Saleh, Alexander Peiler, Jessica Jacobi, Julian Pfeil, Jonas Bomba and Josua Zehner. In their debut work SOMEHOW they explore the boundaries between documentary and fictional documentary and fictional filmmaking and let both forms blend together.
