POLIO

Storyline

Polio is a viral infectious disease that can cause paralysis. The disease is almost eradicated today, but there are still people among us who suffer lifelong consequences after a polio epidemic. The movie shows just a few of those stories in a hopeful and slightly humorous way.

About the film/director

Klara Kubenkova (born 2002) comes from the Czech Republic and studies Animation at FAMU in Prague under the guidance of Michaela Pavlatova, where she is currently working on her bachelor's project. She primarily creates short films using 2D hand-drawn animation. In her work, she values the ability to convey important topics while adding humorous elements to lighten them, as demonstrated in her animated documentary POLIO (2025).
She has a soft spot for animating grandmothers, mostly because she can't wait to be one herself someday. The animation community gives her chances to build relationships across different creative fields and work together on projects, which is exactly what makes her tick as an artist.
When she's not bringing drawings to life, you'll find her hiking up mountains or chilling in cozy pubs.
