Piano Man

Storyline

How does a person live without what is supposedly their most important sense? How does a blind man experience a world that seems to be spinning faster and faster? “Piano Man” addresses these very questions and portrays the life of a blind piano player. An experience of feeling and hearing—a life with music.

About the film/director

Journalist and up-and-coming documentary director from Berlin.

Director’s statement

Stefan Debus lost his eyesight in an accident over 20 years ago. Since then, he has been unable to see anything, neither light nor dark. But instead of letting this stroke of fate get him down, Debus took on this new challenge in life. He went back to school and learned the craft of piano tuning—a profession that used to be common for blind people. Debus came to terms with his blindness and found happiness in life again despite his disability. An inspiring story full of hope.
