Storyline

Paul Jannowski was the superstar of the GDR State Circus—the only living cannonball in the Eastern Bloc. One day, he dared to do the unthinkable: he shot himself across the GDR border to freedom with his cannon.

About the film/director

Björn Warns, born in 1973, married and the father of two children, is an author, director, and musician from Pinneberg, Schleswig-Holstein, near Hamburg. After graduating from high school in 1992, he founded the hip-hop band FETTES BROT and hosted the hip-hop show FREESTYLE on the music video channel VIVA from 1995 to 1996. His passion for film led him to write the screenplays for and direct numerous music videos for the band FETTES BROT starting in 2001 (FALSCHE ENTSCHEIDUNG, 2005; KONTROLLE, 2010; KANNSTE KOMMEN, 2013; and VON DER LIEBE, 2015). In 2005, he founded his own music label, FETTES BROT SCHALLPLATTEN, with his band.
Björn “Beton” Warns used the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to fulfill a long-cherished dream and studied DIGITAL FILM PRODUCTION at the SAE INSTITUTE HAMBURG until September 2022, graduating with a diploma. After completing his studies and the band’s breakup in 2023, he worked as a SET PRODUCTION MANAGER for the company SENDEFÄHIG in Bremen on the production SZENE REPORT, as 2nd ASSISTANT DIRECTOR at FLORIDA FILM under the direction of LARS JESSEN and completed an internship at the film production company TAMTAM FILM in Hamburg. His documentary BARRIKADENTAGE about the squatter movements of the 1980s in Hamburg is his first feature film, with a possible accompanying exhibition at the Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte.
