Heimat

Storyline

Born in the Sudetenland, a Czech-German border region of Czechoslovakia, Adolf Hampel reflects on flight, expulsion, and refuge at the end of the Second World War. Now 86 years old, he embarks on a sentimental journey to thank the family of the man who protected him in a time of oppression.

About the film/director

Dominik’s experience in the film industry stretches across various disciplines including directing, writing and producing. Starting out in animation and visual effects, Dominik has earned various credits on a number of major blockbusters and TV series including The Lion King, The Matrix Resurrections, the BAFTA and Emmy-winning series The Crown and Netflix’s The Witcher. Together with his production partners Edward Lomas and Oscar Harding, he also runs the production company Sonderbar Pictures.
Having also directed a number of shorts, and reaching the finals of the prestigious The Pitch Film Fund in 2019, Dominik has also produced and served as assistant director on the feature documentary A Life on the Farm. Heimat marks Dominik’s first venture into documentary filmmaking in the director’s chair.
Dominik is most often compelled to address contemporary stories and issues that are often overlooked. He believes the best way to bring attention to these is by focusing on the subjects and characters who are directly affected by them.
