Storyline

Austria, 1914: Amelie (20) grows up surrounded by high peaks in a remote Austrian mountain village. She builds her own airplane and dreams of flying to Berlin one day to study at a flying school. Her father Josef (55), however, thinks this is a pointless wish; his plan for Amelie is that she will later take over the family sewing business. Levente (35), who regularly delivers the mail in his airplane, gives her motivation. She gives the postal pilot letters with applications for flying schools.

While her parents and childhood friend Alois (21) want a safe and traditional life for her, Amelie finishes building her airplane after fabric is stolen from the sewing shop. She also receives a letter of acceptance from the Melli Beese flying school in Berlin. When she tells her father the news, he reacts angrily and destroys the engine of her airplane, convinced that this will put her off her plans. Amelie is faced with a difficult decision: either she lives her life the way everyone else has planned it and remains unhappy, or she risks everything to go her own way and realize her dreams. Determined, she secretly repairs the damaged engine, says goodbye to her old life and flies to Berlin, ready to gain her freedom and make her dreams come true.

About the film/director

Leopold was born and raised in Singapore in 2003. He has lived in Munich for three years. After numerous experiences in student film productions, he started the dual study program Production Management for Film and TV at the HS Ansbach in cooperation with the HFF Munich in September 2022. So far, he has written and directed nine short films and expanded his skills by working as an assistant director on student films (Babyboy, Lars Will Nicht Mehr, ...). He is a scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and a former David Marshall scholarship holder. He was awarded the Abitur prize for special social and cultural merit on his graduation.
