Storyline

While father Rudi desperately tries to regain the lost family happiness at the slot machine, Niklas (11) is often alone with his alcoholic mother Anna. Niklas is torn between his sense of duty to help his parents and his desire to escape his parental home. These circumstances force Niklas to ask himself the following question: To leave or to stay? A stirring film about addiction in the parental home from the perspective of a child.

About the film/director

Born in Regensburg, Lars Smekal lives in Mainz and works as a director and author. In his works, he deals with social issues in terms of content. He is particularly interested in people who are underrepresented in public perception or discriminated against and the question of how we want to live together as a society. Smekal presented himself in various radio and television appearances, including on ARD's Morgenmagazin, SWR and HR.
