Storyline

The Ore Mountains offer many melancholic views. The Sudeten landscape desperately lacks the former human presence. For a long time, the region remained at the bottom of the rankings of employment, wealth and quality of life. However, the characteristically wavy landscape was inhabited by many German residents who were displaced before the war. It was the same with the village of Königsmuhle, hidden in the valley from the eyes of passers-by. Only traces of human presence remained in the form of stone ruins. Thirteen years ago, the DoKrajin association, led by Sudeten historian Petr Mikšíček, began revitalizing the space. From the village of ghosts they created a social and artistic space for meetings, tourism and mainly for the development of Czech-German cooperation and friendship. To celebrate this friendship, the association organizes an annual Landart festival focused on the forgotten culture of the Sudetenland. About how cooperation was born out of hatred, about how the excluded regions developed after the war and mainly about the return of man into a shamelessly abandoned landscape, this visually captivating documentary discusses.

About the film/director

František Pecina is a student of documentary direction in the third grade of the Miroslav Ondříček Film Academy in Písek. His work mainly focuses on social probes (We want to fly low, 2022) and historical issues (Roots of hidden nation, 2022). He is a co-founder of the artistic association Agentura K., in which he directs short films, music videos and commercials. As a set designer, he is behind several student films and commercials. He is currently preparing his graduate documentary film Phoenix about death and the ways of acceptance.
