A Winter Mirage
Storyline
In Chinese, ‘golden-age’ and ‘mirage’ share the same sound. On the Winter Solstice of 2024 in Yiwu, China’s largest trading hub, a mother considers closing her accessory shop and returning to her old opera job amid the economic decoupling. She loves orchids, and she misses her father.
About the film/director
Guoju Wang was born and raised in China and comes from a drama family. He studied music and philosophy before turning to filmmaking in 2021, and is a graduate of the London Film School. His work has been selected for major festivals including Premiers Plans Film Festival Angers, Carthage Film Festival, Beijing International Film Festival, and Film Fest Gent. His short film A Winter Mirage was developed through the WIP Lab at the 14th Beijing International Film Festival. He is currently the founder of Mille Plateaux Films in Hangzhou, focusing on the production of live-action immersive videos and VR.
